Penshurst Place Wedding in Kent
Followed by The Plough Inn at Leigh

With Sarah & Marjan

When Sarah & Marjan got in touch about their day, we were really excited. Their wedding ceremony was to be a Penshurst Place wedding venue in Kent, where they can take advantage of the beautiful gardens for their couple shoot. The Plough Inn at Leigh was a perfect venue for their wedding reception, as they were able to incorporate lots of garden games, keeping their guests well entertained.

TRADITIONS

Sarah is English and Marjan is German, so they wanted to incorporate traditions, which would be a nod to both cultures. They had lots of fantastic details, such as the dessert being Black Forest Gateau and they also had some shots that were brought from Germany. The highlight of the day was the challenge of sawing the log. This is a German tradition to encourage teamwork in a new marriage.

PASSION

They both have a great passion for climbing, it was lovely to see how they decided to incorporate this into their day. Firstly, their rings showcased an outline of a mountain-scape, it was such a unique idea that we hadn’t come across before. They made sure that the mountain theme was throughout the wedding decor, even on the cake.

FAMILY

Sarah made sure to include heartfelt touches throughout their day. She doesn’t tend to like to wear make-up, so her and her mother went for a make-up lesson prior to the wedding itself. They purchased some make-up and Sarah’s mother helped her apply it on the day. This was a nice moment for them both on the morning.

Sarah’s mother is a really talented artist. She actually painted the centrepiece artwork and also the table plan. It was lovely to see guests take the centrepiece art home, asking for a signature from Sarah’s mother as well, which was very sweet.

AND MORE FAMILY

So many loved ones got involved to make the day a huge success. One of the highlights was that Sarah’s brother had a bell, which he thoroughly enjoyed ringing throughout the day. He made a fantastic master of ceremonies, assisting us (along with his bell) for group photos and also calling guests to head from one location to the next throughout the day. It was good entertainment for him and us.

We cannot forget to mention Marjan’s good friend Barrie, who actually introduced Marjan to Sarah through a climbing meet. Barrie is an Alpinist and his wife Olga is such a free spirit. They presented a gift on the wedding day of a Myrtle tree, it is apparently a sign of fertility. Part of this tradition is that Marjan has to pick up the pot to show his strength. This wasn’t easy as it weighed a tonne! They then had great fun dancing around the Myrtle tree.

Olga really looked after us. She told us off for eating brioche and gave us some radishes that she had grown herself, saying it would give us much better energy to last the day. She also grabbed Sonia for a boogy on the dane floor in the evening!

THE GAMES

Once at The Plough Inn at Leigh, Sarah & Marjan decided to have funfair type games across the garden. To name a few; they had a Coconut Shy, Hook-a-Duck and Croquet. They also made their own photo frame wall and a Face Cutout board of two mountain climbers.

THE CONCLUSION

From the moment we walked through the door we were welcomed in as guests. Sarah’s father even made sure that Sonia was included in a group photo on a mobile phone, as soon as she had arrived. It was so lovely being a part of this day. Sarah and Marjan are such a fun-loving couple, as you can clearly tell by all the laughs and giggles!
