Two weeks ago, at a routine growth scan (when 33 weeks pregnant) our world was turned upside down. Our baby was diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, which is life threatening. Since then we have had a number of scans, MRI’s and also had our care formally moved to have the best care in place for when our baby comes into the world. We are terrified of what we will face over the coming months, especially when it took us over 8 years for this miracle pregnancy to happen.
The image above from CDH UK shows what happens when a baby has a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.
Since the diagnosis we have had an amazing amount of support, especially from CDH UK and Birmingham Women’s Hospital & Birmingham Children’s Hospital. This support will only increase over the coming months. This is why we have decided to setup GoFundMe pages for both causes. We would love to raise equal funds for both charities, so that they can continue to support people like us.
CDH UK is a charity that helps families that have been given diagnosis; from information to even assisting with finances to and from specialist hospitals, if you have been transferred. The majority of the people working for the charity are volunteers, who have had children with CDH and have full time jobs – yet they give up their free time to help. Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity has an international reputation in areas such as liver transplantation, cardiac surgery and neonatal surgery. They will be the ones that operate on our baby once he is stable enough for surgery. Please see our GoFundMe page for this cause below:
